About Thabiti Alliance

What is Thabiti Alliance?

Thabiti Alliance is an organisation being established in Kenya to strengthen vulnerable children and families by helping them overcome specific barriers, build lasting stability, and access opportunities that enable them to shape their own futures. Our work is built around a simple principle: the barrier is the problem, not the person.

What does “Thabiti” mean?

“Thabiti” is a Swahili word meaning stable, firm, or secure. The name reflects our belief that stability and dignity create a stronger foundation from which children and families can recover, make choices, and pursue opportunities.

Where does Thabiti Alliance work?

Thabiti Alliance is beginning in Kilifi County, Kenya. The first pilot will provide practical experience and evidence that can inform decisions about future development.

Our Work

Who does Thabiti Alliance support?

Our work focuses on vulnerable children and families facing specific circumstances affecting education, family stability, safety, or wellbeing. Eligibility is intended to be determined through assessment and consistently applied criteria.

How are children and families selected for support?

A specific need is identified, the situation is assessed against clear eligibility criteria, and the circumstances are recorded before assistance is approved. Selection should be based on assessed need rather than personal connections.

Can someone nominate a child or family?

Yes. A referral or nomination can bring a situation to our attention, but it does not determine eligibility. Referred cases must go through the same assessment process as other cases.

How does Thabiti Alliance make sure support reaches the right people?

Through structured assessment, consistent eligibility criteria, controlled decision-making, and follow-up after assistance is provided. Decisions should be recorded so they can be reviewed and explained.

How will Thabiti Alliance know whether support worked?

Follow-up will look at what changed after assistance was provided. The aim is not simply to record what was delivered or spent, but to understand whether the original need was addressed and what can be learned from the outcome.

Do children and families have a say in the support they receive?

Yes. Their experience and perspective should help us understand the situation, consider what response is appropriate, and learn whether the assistance was useful.

Governance & Transparency

Who governs Thabiti Alliance?

Thabiti Alliance is governed by its founding Board. Current Board members and their roles are listed on our Governance & Transparency page. Formal legal responsibilities will take effect upon completion of registration.

How does the Board oversee the organisation?

The Board is responsible for mission oversight, leadership, major decisions, financial controls, safeguarding, and governance. The structure is designed so that no single individual has unchecked authority over organisational funds or major decisions.

How are conflicts of interest handled?

Board members must disclose relevant personal, financial, or family interests and step aside from decisions where required. Related-party matters require appropriate participation from Board members who are not affected by the relationship.

How will funds be controlled and accounted for?

Thabiti Alliance’s financial-control framework requires organisational funds to move through approved organisational accounts rather than personal accounts. Appropriate authorisation, records, and oversight will be required for expenditure.

Will financial reports be publicly available?

Yes. Appropriate annual, financial, and transparency reports will be added to our public document library as Thabiti Alliance completes its operating and reporting cycles.

Safeguarding & Accountability

What is Thabiti Alliance’s approach to safeguarding?

The safety, dignity, rights, and privacy of children and vulnerable people are fundamental to how we intend to operate. Safeguarding requirements apply to policies, activities, partnerships, communication, and direct contact with children and families.

How can I raise a concern, complaint, or safeguarding issue?

Thabiti Alliance is committed to providing safe and accessible ways to raise concerns, give feedback, or report safeguarding issues. Reporting arrangements will include routes that do not require a concern to be raised through the person it relates to. Details will be published as operational systems are put in place.

What happens when something does not work as planned?

We intend to document it, learn from it, and adapt. Responsible work requires honest measurement, recognition of what needs to change, and the use of evidence and feedback to improve future decisions.

Funding & Partnerships

Can individuals support Thabiti Alliance?

Yes. Private donors and philanthropists are welcome to explore supporting Thabiti Alliance. Direct donation processing will be introduced once the necessary legal, banking, and financial-control arrangements are fully in place. Until then, interested supporters can contact us directly.

Can international organisations partner with Thabiti Alliance?

Yes. We welcome appropriate conversations with foundations, development agencies, churches and faith-based organisations, companies, academic institutions, professional partners, and other organisations whose objectives align with our work.

Can foundations or companies fund a specific programme?

Potentially, yes. Support for clearly defined programmes, activities, or purposes may be considered where it aligns with Thabiti Alliance’s mission and operating model. Restricted funding should be tracked and reported according to its agreed purpose.

Who can partner with Thabiti Alliance?

Potential partners may include foundations, institutional and private donors, philanthropists, churches and faith-based organisations, companies, government institutions, universities, researchers, professional experts, community organisations, and other civil-society partners.

Volunteering

Can I volunteer?

Structured volunteer opportunities will be introduced only where responsibilities, safeguarding requirements, supervision, and training can be clearly defined. Relevant professional and technical expertise can be offered through our Get Involved page.
